Affiliation: Institution to which the Author is linked.

Analytical: Part of a document, such as a journal article or book chapter.

File: In computing, a set of data that can be written to some storage device. Data files are created by applications, such as a word processor.

Database: Structured information file or logically related data set, stored and retrieved by computer-based means. (DeCS/MeSH 2022)

Bibliographic databases: Extensive, presumably comprehensive collections of references and citations for books, articles, publications, etc., usually in a single subject or specialized area. (DeCS/MeSH 2022)

Category: General facet that applies to various areas of knowledge or various subjects (CUNHA; CAVALCANTI, 2008)

CDS/ISIS – MicroISIS: Software developed and maintained by UNESCO for bibliographic data processing.

Cooperating Center: Institution with the function of collaborating with content for BIREME products and/or services, mainly developing activities related to updating information sources.

National Coordinating Center: LILACS cooperating institution whose main function is to coordinate cooperating centers in a region.

Specialized center: Institution specialized in a specific area of health.

Citation: Excerpt authored by a third party mentioned in quotes in a work, with author indication.

ISO Standard: Code, file, and format created according to the standardization and regulation of the International Organization for Standardization – ISO.

Editorial Committee: Group of professionals and experts in the publication field of a journal, whose objective is to establish editorial standards and conventions and to evaluate contributions received by the publication to ensure a quality standard.

Technical cooperation: Exchange between countries, to collaborate with each other aiming at the execution of work programs, projects/activities, or events of mutual interest, from which no obligation to transfer resources between the participants arises. (Brazil, 2013)

Cutter: Table of codes indicating the authorship of a work

DeCS/MeSH – Health Sciences Descriptors/Medical Subject Headings, a multilingual thesaurus created by BIREME to serve as a single language in the thematic indexing and retrieval of documents.

Bibliographic Description: Description of a bibliographic item through attributes such as authorship, title, edition, dimensions, etc.

Epigraph: Title or phrase that, placed at the beginning of a work, serves as the theme of the subject or to summarize the meaning or situate the motivation of the work. See also citation. (Oxford Languages, 2022)

Electronic format: Any form of information storage, retrieval, and presentation capable of online transmission or recording on magnetic or optical media.

LILACS Format: Bibliographic format established by BIREME, based on the UNISIST Reference Manual for Machine-readable Bibliographic Descriptions.

Glossary: Vocabulary of specific or controlled use, used in publications to elucidate the meaning of little-known, technical, or restricted terms.

Guide: Document that defines the processes necessary for the production of an information source or phases of a methodology.

ID: Identification Number of the record in the database.

Indexing: Process of synthesizing the main contents treated and thematic representation through the assignment of descriptors.

Lato sensu: Postgraduate courses, comprising specializations and MBAs (Master in Business Administration) in which research activity has a broad sense, involving specific problems in the study area.

Manual: Set of recommendations, instructions, and detailed guidelines on the process of using an application, program, or methodology.

Methodology: Set of norms and conventions used with the purpose of standardizing a process or the production of an information source.

Model or template: Structure containing the basic definition of the type of document to be used, containing predefined styles, texts, etc.

Analytical level: Bibliographic description of one or more parts of a larger document.

Treatment level: Encoded definition of the depth level of bibliographic description of the document.

Monographic level: Bibliographic description of a document that constitutes a unit in itself.

PHA: Table created by Heloísa de Almeida Prado, whose symbols serve to organize documents in order of authorship or title. It is an adaptation of the Cutter table for names in Portuguese.

Scientific production: Works carried out with scientific methodologies, analyzed and approved by specialists, and presented or published.

Stricto sensu: Postgraduate courses at the master’s and doctoral levels, which prepare for an academic career.

Controlled or structured vocabulary: Artificial language consisting of terms organized in a relational structure according to a methodology.
