14 – Page Identifier (analytical level)

 

1. DESCRIPTION OF THE DATA FIELD:

Variable size

Essential and repetitive filling

 

2. DATA ELEMENT DEFINITION:

A number that identifies the pages of the article or chapter as presented in the document.

 

3. NOTES:

  1. a) Record the Starting Page and the Ending Page as they appear in the document;
  2. b) When dealing with an electronic document without traditional page numbering, record the data in the Electronic Location Identifier (elocation) field, accompanied by the letter e.

c) Fill in the Pages attribute when pagination is irregular or nonexistent. Record the initial and final page numbers calculated by the librarian within brackets.

d) When pagination is not sequential, record the groups in Starting Page and Ending Page. If there are more than three groups, record the first three groups in the respective attributes, and for the remaining groups, record “passim” in Starting Page.

c) Starting Page: 50 Ending Page: 59

d) Starting Page: passim

e) For a document consisting of a single page, record the page number in the Starting Page and Ending Page subfields.

f) If pagination is expressed in Roman numerals, record it in Starting Page and Ending Page as it appears in the document.

g) If pagination consists of letters and numbers, record it in Starting Page and Ending Page as it appears in the document.

h) For articles written in more than one language within the same physical unit, consider the total number of pages, including versions in all languages;

i) For electronic documents, filling in this field becomes optional.
