21 – Volume (monographic level)

 

1. DESCRIPTION OF THE DATA FIELD:

2. DATA ELEMENT DEFINITION:

Number identifying the document volume that is part of a collection treated at a monographic level. The term “volume” refers to the volume itself or its possible subdivisions such as tome, part, etc.

 

3. NOTES:

a) Filling in this field becomes mandatory when the document is a monograph belonging to a collection, or an analytic of a monograph belonging to a collection;

b) Record the volume, tome, or part preceded by the abbreviation that identifies it, such as:

Part pt

c) If the volume has subdivisions, record them separated by a comma and with an intervening space;

 

Example:

v. 3 v.2, pt.1

d) When the total number of volumes belonging to a collection is known, this information should be recorded in the Total Number of Volumes field;

 

Example: 7 v

e) When the total number of volumes is known, in the case of multivolume monographs, this information should be recorded in the Volume field.

 

Example: 3 v
