LILACS Methodology – Documentation – Manuals, Technical Notes, and Presentations
The LILACS Methodology enables the development of bibliographic databases that emphasize the characteristics of scientific and technical production in the Health field of Latin America and the Caribbean.
It was launched in 1982 in conjunction with the LILACS database, and currently, around ninety specialized databases are maintained within the LILACS ecosystem.

LILACS METHODOLOGY: DESCRIPTION, INDEXING, AND SEARCH GUIDES AND MANUALS
LILACS METHODOLOGY: MANUALS AND GUIDES FOR DESCRIPTION, INDEXING, AND SEARCH The LILACS Methodology was created based on the data structure of UNISIST, MARC, Dublin Core formats, as well as the data filling guidelines of ISBD and AACR2. Regarding document indexing according to the LILACS Methodology, the indexing policy was created and is updated following the policy of the National Library of Medicine. The creation and updating of this documentation are carried out by BIREME/PAHO/WHO with the support of the LILACS Indexers Network, and the Spanish translation review was carried out with the support of Infomed from Cuba.

Responsible for leading, coordinating and carrying out the advocacy of LILACS in its scope of activity, either as a national representative or thematic area of the LILACS Network (Nursing and Dentistry).

Responsible for the scientific and technical quality of the journal indexed in LILACS and databases that adopt the LILACS Methodology and cooperate as Editor LILACS-Express sending data necessary for rapid access to the article in LILACS.
Selection Committees of LILACS journals
Editors or former scientific editors of journals indexed in LILACS specialists in editorial processes of scientific journals and in scientific communication in Health.
Responsible for the evaluation and selection of journals for indexing in LILACS, for the suggestion of improvements in the journal evaluation process and for contributions to the review of LILACS quality criteria.

Professionals who work in analysis, synthesis and representation of the content of health documents adopting the LILACS Methodology using DeCS/MeSH descriptors.

Professionals who work in the process of searching for specialized health documentation, especially by adopting the LILACS Methodology, using DeCS/MeSH descriptors.
